Let Your Thoughts Create Beauty

Our thoughts are a powerful force, especially when there are emotions attached to them. When repeated over and over, our thoughts become our attitudes and then become our beliefs. The way we talk to ourselves effects our mental health and well-being. But what effects do our thoughts have on our physical bodies or on other people around us? In his book, “Awakened Mind: How Thoughts Create Reality”, Mitch Horowitz gives a master class about the power of language, even when it is not spoken aloud, and suggests that The Golden Rule should apply not just to our actions, but to our thoughts as well: Think about others the way you would have them think about you. The thoughts we think about ourselves and others leave an energetic footprint that lingers after the thought has left.

In her book, The Intention Experiment: Using Your Thoughts to Change Your Life and the World, Lynne McTaggart writes:

A sizable body of research exploring the nature of consciousness, carried on for more than thirty years in prestigious scientific institutions around the world, shows that thoughts are capable of affecting everything from the simplest machines to the most complex living beings. This evidence suggests that human thoughts and intentions are an actual physical "something" with astonishing power to change our world. Every thought we have is tangible energy with the power to transform. A thought is not only a thing; a thought is a thing that influences other things.

In 2004, Dr. Masuru Emoto, published a book on his fascinating research into the effect of thoughts and intentions on matter. Specifically, he designed experiments with water in which he exposed vials of water to positive thoughts such as “I love you”, “I am thankful for you” or negative thoughts such as “I hate you” or “I will hurt you”. He then took the vials of water and froze them to the point where they began to form ice crystals. Under a microscope, he found that the water exposed to positive thoughts formed symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing ice crystals, while the water exposed to negative thoughts did not. Although Dr. Emoto’s research was only self published, it has since been replicated with double and triple blind studies here and here which found support for this hypothesis.

I keep these results and the image of these ice crystals in mind whenever I am quick to judge someone, knowing that as I think negatively towards someone or something else, I am putting myself in resonance with those thoughts. Likewise, when I send out love and compassion towards another person, I am offering them my own positive resonance. As Paul Selig states often in his books, “What you damn, damns you back. What you bless, blesses you in return”. I also think of this principle before I eat or drink, knowing that as I bless my food I am not only giving thanks for it, but am sending thoughts of love and gratitude towards what I am about to put into my body. I will leave you with another one of my favorite quotes on language from Richard Rudd:

“ There is a deep magic woven into language. It is why the origin of the word spell correlates with the idea of casting spells that have power over others. Every word has an inner spirit — a code of light that lends it an independent force in the cosmos. The moment a word or a group of words is given voice, vibrations radiate out into the universe. There is no return.”
